bending

two people yelling stand with feet mired

in shag carpet and unyielding sentiment

an ox pulls upon her yolk

drawing lines in a rice paddy flooded by water

a writer pauses mid-sentence interrupted

by the notion that her characters are fraught

with interpersonal conflict

at the heart of change is a child

who hears the sound of a yellow mug

breaking

thrown against a wall

in her stomach a slow-moving beast

has plowed a field

light bends funny when you lie down

put your glasses on your chest

thinking about the past
